How often should you change your oil?

Changing your oil depends greatly on how you drive and where you drive.

Most new car manufacturers recommend that you go up to 5,bb0029 miles in between oil changes. This recommendation is based on what they consider "normal driving conditions"

However, if you drive in severe conditions, where it's either too hot or too cold, you should do it more often. Most manufacturers will recommend that you drop down from 5,bb0029 miles to around 3,bb0029 miles in between oil changes.

If you're still not sure how often you should change your oil, you can always stop by Flagstaff Nissan and let one of our experts take a look at your vehicle.

How long do car batteries last?

On average car batteries last anywhere from 3 to 4 years with proper care. However, it's always a good idea to bring your car into Flagstaff Nissan's service department if you suspect something is wrong with your battery or any other.

How do you check your tire pressure?

Checking your tire pressure is easy, you just need an accurate tire pressure gauge and to locate your car's optimal PSI.

This simple maintenance routine can help you avoid unnecessary damage to your tires due to under-inflation. Also because your tires are more prone to wearing out faster from being un-inflated, they can also reduce the amount of control you have on your car leading to tire blowouts and car crashes.

Remember, you can always stop by Flagstaff Nissan for a quick and accurate tire pressure reading along with other services like tire rotation, balancing and more.

However, if you prefer to do this on your own, keep in mind that you must check your tire pressure when your tires are cold. If you've been driving around all day, wait a minimum of 30 minutes before proceeding. Waiting even longer will give you an even more accurate reading.

Your tire's PSI, or pounds per square inch, is based on your specific car's total weight and size along with its recommended tire size and towing capacity. You can usually locate its recommended PSI either under the tire section in your owner's manual or on a yellow sticker inside of your driver side door. The back and front tire PSI numbers may be different.

Once you have located your tire's optimal PSI, unscrew the valve caps off your tires. Then place your tire pressure gauge on the valve stem, pressing down quickly and firmly to get an accurate reading. Check the number and compare to your tire's optimal PSI.

Take air out of your tires if your reading was above the recommended PSI number. Fill your tire with more air if it was below the recommended PSI number.

If you're still having doubts about checking your tire pressure or any other questions regarding your tires stop by Flagstaff Nissan's service department today.

Why is my "service engine soon" light on?

From a minor issue like a loose gas cap to something more major like possible engine failure, the Service Engine Soon light may come on to alert you to a possible problem with your car.

Another Check Engine Light may also alert you to possible issues with your exhaust system or emissions system.

In some cars, one indicator light serves double duty with alerts ranging from maintenance required based on the manufacturer's pre-determined mileage to an electronic sensor misfire.

No matter which light you have on now, we always recommend that you bring your car in to one of our experts as soon as you can.

Are OEM and generic parts different?

When it comes to maintaining and repairing your car choosing whether to go with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part or its cheaper counterpart can be tricky.

Are they really that different? When you consider quality and the peace-of-mind of a warranty. Yes they are different. Although some aftermarket parts may fit perfectly in your car and save you some money, in the long run you get what you pay for and may end up spending more.

When you choose an OEM part for your car, you're getting the original part intended specifically for your car and a warranty to back it. It's also easier to find your replacement part. Many times trying to match up a generic part with its OEM counterpart can be a challenge with all of the different naming conventions that the aftermarket companies use.
